App Store header and search result sizes

Since iOS 27 an App Store listing has two new pieces of artwork: a header across the top of the product page, and an asset that appears in search results — where, if you provide one, it takes the place of your first screenshots. Both can be an image or a short looping video, and both are uploaded in App Store Connect under Header and Search Results, or through the new Asset Library, where they're reviewed separately from your app version.

Apple publishes the pixel sizes but not how each device crops them. Its templates do mark a centred safe area — the part every iPhone and iPad shows. Below are the sizes, the safe areas and the rules.

The rules Apple enforces

  • Exact sizes: the header is exactly 3840 × 1646 (21:9); a search result asset is 3:2, from 1920 × 1280 up to 3840 × 2560; the universal 16:9 asset is 5244 × 2950 and PNG only.
  • No alpha channel or transparency in any image.
  • Keep text, logos and the focal point inside the safe area — everything else can be cropped on some device or orientation.
  • No prices, discounts, website URLs or copyright symbols; no other platforms' logos; no claims of awards you haven't won, and no Apple recognitions like Editor's Choice.
  • Suitable for a 4+ age rating, whatever your app's own rating — and localize any text for every language your app supports.
  • Videos: 5–30 seconds at 30 or 60 fps. They loop and start muted; in search results they can't be unmuted, so they have to work silently.

Image sizes

Safe areas are measured from Apple's creative-asset templates and centred on the canvas, except the universal asset's, which sits 334 px above centre.

The shortcut: start from your screenshots

The header and search asset should look like the same app as your screenshots. In AppStills you add them as two more canvases in the same project: they open with your background, your headline and your screenshots on iPhones already placed in Apple's safe area, which stays marked while you edit. The Store check warns when text leaves it, and the export is opaque at the exact size. For video, the promo video maker has App Store header and search result scripts that export at those sizes.

Design once, export every size

AppStills exports each creative asset at Apple's exact size, flat and alpha-free:

Frequently asked questions

What size is the App Store product page header?

Exactly 3840 × 1646 pixels (21:9), as a JPEG or PNG with no transparency — or a 21:9 video at 3840 × 1646, 5–30 seconds at 30 or 60 fps. Apple also accepts one 16:9 PNG at 5244 × 2950 that serves as both the header and the search result asset.

What size is the App Store search result asset?

Any 3:2 size from 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560 pixels, JPEG or PNG, or a 3:2 video in the same range. It appears in App Store search on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

Do I have to add a header or search result asset?

No, both are optional. Without a search result asset, App Store search shows your In-App Events, app previews and screenshots as before — so your first three screenshots still matter.

What is the safe area of the App Store header?

In Apple's templates it is a centred 1646 × 661 rectangle on the 3840 × 1646 canvas: about the middle 43 % of the width and 40 % of the height. Apple's own guidance is to keep the focal point in the centre; anything outside the safe area can be cropped on some devices and orientations.

Can the header have text?

Yes, but keep it short — Apple's advice is a phrase that adds to the image rather than describes it — and inside the safe area. No prices, URLs or award claims, and translate it for every language you ship.

Should I use the universal asset or separate ones?

Separate assets give each placement its full safe area (1646 × 661 for the header, 2168 × 1030 for search). The universal 5244 × 2950 image is simpler to manage, but its safe area is only 1402 × 962, so it suits a single logo or a very short line.
