How to make an app promo video from your screenshots

A short promo video works on your website, your socials, Product Hunt and your Google Play listing — and you can make it from the screenshots you already designed. This tutorial turns the Stedo set from the basics video into a landscape promo and a vertical Reel, from the first click to the export.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Pick a script

    0:00

Open a project's Video tab and click Choose a script. There are 15, each composed for its frame: landscape 16:9 for YouTube and your site, vertical 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, and square for feeds.

  2. 2

    Your set, in motion

    0:19

The script opens already filled in — your screenshots, your captions and your background, placed scene by scene. Press play to watch it; nothing starts empty.

  3. 3

    Make it yours

    0:34

Every word is editable. Click a line in the panel and the preview jumps to that scene, then type — here the closing line becomes Stedo's own call to action.

Under Music, pick one of ten built-in tracks or upload your own. It plays with the video, loops to its length and fades out at the end.

  4. 4

    Video-only screens

    0:58

Click a phone in a scene and upload any screenshot, or drag one from Finder straight onto a phone in the preview. It lives in this video only, so the screenshots in your set stay as they are.

  5. 5

    Export the MP4

    1:15

Export MP4 renders the video at 1080p and 30 fps right in your browser, music included, and saves it to your downloads — ready for your site, socials or Product Hunt.

Building and previewing videos is free; exporting is part of AppStills Pro.

  6. 6

    A vertical cut

    1:27

Under Videos, click New video and pick a vertical 9:16 script such as Reel: the same screenshots and captions, with new choreography for Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Need an App Store app preview instead? Apple wants real footage of your app — select a phone in the editor, add your screen recording, and export it at the exact preview size.
