How to make App Store screenshots in 3 minutes

Your first three screenshots show up right in App Store search results, so they do most of the selling before anyone reads your description. This tutorial follows one app from an empty project to a finished, exported set — every click shown, nothing skipped.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create a project

    0:00

Click New project and choose Start from scratch. You can also import your existing App Store or Google Play listing, or begin from a template.

A new project is already a finished set: three screens, each with a headline and a phone. Everything you select on the canvas is edited in the panel on the right, and every change saves on its own.

  2. 2

    Add your screenshots

    0:27

Drag a raw screenshot from Finder straight onto a phone — it snaps into the screen. Full-resolution screenshots from your phone or the simulator work as they are.

To fill every phone at once, use Replace screenshots…: one image per screen, in order, and the layout stays exactly as it is.

  3. 3

    Write your headlines

    0:40

Double-click a headline on the canvas and type. Short and benefit-first reads best in search — five words or fewer.

Font, size, colour and alignment are in the panel. When one headline looks right, Use this style on all headlines gives the whole set the same look.

  4. 4

    Tilt the phones

    1:08

Select a phone and pick Left, Straight or Right under Tilt. New projects alternate the tilt, so a swipe through the set has rhythm.

For anything in between, drag Rot Y° — it's extra fine near zero. ⌘Z undoes any step and ⇧⌘Z brings it back.

  5. 5

    Add a screen

    1:27

Add screen creates a new screen with the same background as the rest.

Click Text and the new headline lands in the headline spot, in the style of the one next to it. Click Phone and the new phone copies the size and position of its neighbour — turned the other way to keep the rhythm.

  6. 6

    Pick a background

    1:48

While your screens match, Same background on all screens is on, so every colour, gradient or image you choose changes the whole set.

Choose a background opens ready-made backgrounds, a generated gradient, a frosted version of your own screenshots, or your own image.

  7. 7

    Preview and export

    2:01

Preview shows your first screens at real App Store size. If the headline reads there, it works.

Export runs the store check first: it flags anything a store would reject, and things that cost installs — like headlines too small for search results, which Enlarge fixes in one click. Then export the sizes the App Store needs.
